“Conceptually and visually, the exhibition amplifies the voices and perspectives of each artist as their works engage in a collective dialogue. MELANIE KITTI "I BOILED MY ROOTS IN AN OLD POT" 📷

“Melanie Kitti derives her writing and visual arts approach from a realm of disturbance, fragmentation, and interruption. She gained recognition for "Half Urn, Half Grail", which compiles concise and evanescent observations about a family on the verge of dissolution, reflecting a corresponding mental state. In her painterly endeavors, she employs do-it-yourself fresco techniques on structures crafted from materials like plaster.”

Bringing together this new body of work for the first time, Cave Painting continues Norgaard’s inquiry into the medium of painting as a vast analytical space. Coalescing abstraction and figuration, her rigorously rendered canvases incorporate traditional painting techniques with an inherent conceptual sensibility to consider implications between aesthetics, artistic production and socio-economic living conditions.”

“What was it with this place that had inspired myriad writers to journey through its darkness and shadows? Was it the landscape and latitude that invited projections beyond the horizon of the imaginable? The uncanny perfection of the “minimalist” design? Or was it perhaps the heart shaped mirror of the welfare state that at an honest glance fell from its thin nail onto the ground – shattering into pieces so sharp no one would walk away without a wound?”

“Matteo Cantarella is pleased to present MILL, a solo exhibition by Danish artist Sofie Winther. Comprising a multi-part installation of hyper-functional objects, the exhibition furthers Winther’s interest in the forms of dependence that determine relationships between individual and systems. With MILL, Winther explores how the relations of reciprocity, control and discipline that we enter into, simultaneously embody oppressive structures and fundamental existential necessities.”

“For her solo exhibition, Rose Thorn, the Danish-German artist Ursula Reuter Christiansen creates new work, shown in dialog with recent and older drawings, ceramics, and paintings. The selection departs from the idea, that the gallery’s historical limestone building references a small princess castle, overgrown by thorns. The symbolism and the narratives of fairy tales such as Sleeping Beauty often inspired Reuter Christiansen to speak about hurdles of life and feminist issues.”

“On The Field of Playing: ACT 1 operates within the terrain of domestication, specifically the practice of training and taming of our canine companions. In Ville Vidø’s theatrical universe, we witness the convoluted play between trainer and animal, a reflection of the systems of power, as well as (for some) the debilitating codes of behavior in our efficiency-centric world.”

“Working across drawing, time-based media and writing, the work of Frederikke Jul Vedelsby examines access to other states of consciousness. Under the title of drawing, which Vedelsby precisely entrusts to each work, lies a daily, physical and spiritual practice. Both decidedly ritualized and extremely physical, shapes in Vedelsby’s work are irregular, quirky, and amply magnetizing – bodiless, and elusive entities occupying an earthly domain where feelings are estranged by over-mediated forms of connections.”

MIRIAM KONGSTAD "HEART OF STEEL" 📷

  • Gas 9 Gallery, København (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

“A heart of steel is something of a paradox. The beating heart is fleshy and warm – it aches, pines and breaks, it overflows with emotion. This outpouring has been associated with a feminine sensibility and, in its extreme, with female hysteria. By comparison, a heart made of steel and the ability to feel nothing at all is regularly seen as masculine – the beating heart made impenetrable, hard and cold. Yet steel is a material that is willing to be shaped; it is far from rigid and unfeeling.”
