CHART 2016: NILS STÆRK

We begin our visit to Nils Stærk’s gallery slightly backwards. We’ve taken a step back and instead of walking in through the main entrance we find ourselves in the studio of one of the artists that Nils represent; Nils Erik Gjerdevik.

After spending hours in the company of Nils Erik Gjerdevik, exploring all corners of his studio he gives us a lift to the former Carlsberg brewery at Vesterbro where Nils Stærk’s gallery is located.

Before moving to Vesterbro in 2009 his gallery was located in Islands Brygge and before that in his own apartment. During the years the gallery has grown into the lead of the nordic gallery scene and is among the few danish galleries that are invited to participate at the prestigious Art Basel. Nils focuses on scandinavian and latin american art and represents artists such as Ingvar Cronhammar, Gardar Eide Einarsson, Dario Escobar, FOS, Superflex and Ed Templeton.

Besides a series of newly produced ceramic sculptures by Nils Erik Gjerdevik, Nils Stærk will also present works by Eduardo Terrazas when he participates at Chart Art Fair later this month. Terrazas has worked as an architect, graphic designer and visual artist since the 1950’s and is perhaps best known for his logo design for the 1968 OL in Mexico. In the recent years he has emphasized his artistic presence, and especially his collaboration with the native mexican Huichol tribe have fallen in Nils’ taste.
